All horses are constructed in the traditional laminated block method and the painted horses hand crafted from quality treated timber. Clear finished horses are crafted from native and recycled hardwoods. Recycled timber often has minor imperfections, which adds to the charm. Modern epoxy glues are used for durability.

The horses are carved and sanded to an extremely high quality of finish prior to the application of a durable two-pack lacquer finish.

Wayne prefers to use synthetic wig quality hair for mane and tail so children may brush, plait and braid without damage. Natural horse hair may also be used although an appropriate colour is not always available. All tack is leather, with solid brass (or chrome plated) rings, bit and stirrups, and glass taxidermist quality eyes. All horses are individually numbered by stamp and carry a brass maker plaque..

A size 5 or 6 horse may carry an adult rider.
